Our Beautiful Wedding

The bride and groom

I think one of the reasons that our wedding was so special is because we planned it all ourselves. Sonia is an excellent wedding planner among her many other talents. Of course it was special for lots of other reasons too. We only invited immediate family members and a small few of our very closest friends. Part of that was to keep the price tag low. However, it also had the effect of making a small warm cozy wedding full of love. We prayed about it and let God lead us through it. We took the ten-week preparation for marriage class that our church required and although I thought it was a silly idea beforehand, I would very highly recommend it for anyone thinking about getting married.

We started putting our wedding together right away and it was lots of fun. Sonia's friend Diedre who was also my secondary care-giver had graduated as a pastry chef so together they designed and made the cake. It was beautiful. We had the wedding at our church, but selected David Caskey (our missionary flying preacher friend in the Bahamas) to perform the ceremony. It was beautiful and very touching. Sonia and David had planned a special surprise for me that nobody knew about. Just before we exchanged vows, Sonia sang (acapella) the most beautiful rendition of "You light up my life" that I have ever heard. There was not a dry eye in the sanctuary that day.

The honeymoon begins! Do not disturb!

We had the reception at our local DoubleTree Hotel. It was excellent. There was plenty of food, dancing and singing and everybody there had a wonderful time. The DJ played all of our favorite songs and one by one everyone who wanted to said nice things about us in front of the group and wished blessings upon our marriage. We spent the night in their honeymoon suite and then it was off to the Airport bound for our honeymoon in New Orleans.
