Our Beautiful New Orleans Honeymoon

Quite naturally when we begin planning for the wedding one of the big question was, "Where are we going to honeymoon?"

We thought about many places. Sonia was very interested in seeing any place new in the United States. She had lived in the Northeast and in Washington D.C. and was now in Florida but she knew very little of the rest of the country. One of my concerns was the weather. We had decided to get married in late August so I didn't want to get too far north in case it might already be starting to get cold.

We finally decided on New Orleans. It seemed like it would be a fun place to visit and we were both very anxious to see the city and sample the food.

We did a lot of planning and searching on the Internet and finally settled on a hotel called Le Pavilion. If I ever get another chance to go to New Orleans, I will stay there again. It was beautiful and everything went very well. It is one of the old historic hotels just a few blocks from the French quarter and since we planned to spend most of our time on Bourbon Street listening to music and eating, it was perfect.

The world-famous Bourbon Street

We had purchased a small digital camera at a greatly reduced price and foolishly took it with us which is why the pictures on this page are not very good.

I had called the concierge ahead of time and had the room especially arranged. A bouquet of roses, a bottle of her favorite wine, strawberries dipped in chocolate and rose petals sprinkled on the bed were all awaiting when we arrived.

The hotel was beautiful with old portraits on the walls, high ceilings with beautiful chandeliers, gold fixtures in our bathroom, and all the works.

As planned, we spent most of our time on Bourbon Street. The food could not have been better and one thing that I missed so bad in South Florida is fried oysters. In New Orleans, I had no trouble finding them everywhere. I ate fried oysters every night and we did not eat at the same place twice. Everywhere we went they were delicious.

We walked around the town just to see it. We rode the trolley, we saw the aquarium, I got to pet a live nurse shark, and although we did not go on one we saw plenty of riverboats.

It was a good honeymoon and we had a wonderful time.
