Life in the Hospital

August 25, 2004

Well, today I arrived! Mommy and daddy went to the doctor yesterday and she said they should come on over to the hospital and wait for me. That's where I arrived, a place called a hospital. It was pretty nice. We're in a big room with lots of space and all kinds of neat medical gadgets and computers. I think it really fascinated my dad 'cause he's such a nerd and he knows everything about computers.

So Mommy and Daddy came over here last night and brought the family with them. This is Grandma. She's really neat but unfortunately she lives way up in Georgia so she had to make a special trip to Florida to see me. That's where we are, West Palm Beach, Florida. It's the perfect place for a princess like me.

My Aunt Lucy came along too. I'm really glad 'cause she's really cool. She lives in Georgia too, right next door to Grandma. She has three boys who are my cousins but they're lots older than me. She has a bunch of other animals too. Cats, mice, gerbils, crabs and God only knows what else in that house. I'm gonna go see them all some day. My middle name is Lucinda after Aunt Lucy. She was right there when I arrived and she helped alot. I'm gonna be alot like her when I grow up.

When they knew I was about to arrive Daddy called his friend Sonia from work and she left work to come over and help too. That was really nice of her. Between Sonia and Aunt Lucy, I knew I had nothing to worry about. Sonia is a nurse. Not just any nurse, she's a special kind of nurse. She works with computers in the same office where Daddy does. See, computer nerds like Daddy don't know how to talk to nurses and they don't understand all about what nurses do so Sonia learned about computers so she can understand Daddy even when he's talking nerd talk. But she didn't get too nerdy for the nurses so she can translate between them.

Speaking of nurses, we had a very special one. Mommy and daddy had to go to some kind of llamas class to learn what to do when I got here and this nurse was their teacher. Now she's our nurse here at the hospital. God sure is being good to us. I like this hospital.

Ha ha! You should have seen Daddy's face when I finally arrived! It was priceless. He says it's a true miracle the way it happens. He says I'm his very special princess. I can tell he loves me so much. Everybody says I'm gonna be spoiled but I don't think so.

I'm the biggest baby here right now. They told me I'm 23 inches long and I weigh 9 pounds and 2 ounces. Daddy says I'm the most beautiful baby here also! I think his judgement might be a little clouded though considering that I'm his little princess and all. It is true that I arrived here with a head full of gorgeous soft black curls. I try to act as cute as I can and I can tell it really drives Daddy crazy. I could tell today that the first time he held me in his arms his heart was mine!

I made lots of new friends today. Dan was one of them. He's a social worker and a good friend. When Daddy first moved to Florida he didn't know anybody here and he really needed help to get everything coordinated. Dan was right there to help. He worked at the hospital where Daddy works but he has since retired and gone on to bigger dreams. He and Daddy still stay in touch though.

The other nurse who worked with us was Jackie. She was really special too. In fact, one of the first things she did was to feed me. That was my favorite thing. If this is what life is all about, I think I'm going to really enjoy it. These people are all so nice.

Of course, no princess can go too long without a visit to the beauty shop! Well, ok. Not exactly a visit there yet, but Jackie did wash my hair good. Combed it too and I loved every minute of it. Getting my hair done was only the first step. They trimmed my nails, treated my skin with special baby moisturizing cream and everything. Well, the life of a princess is quite tiring. I'll write more in a few days.
